Aslam graduated from the University of Cape Town in 2000 with a BBusSc. He started his career as an analyst with Coronation Fund Managers in 2001 and joined Camissa Asset Management (previously Kagiso Asset Management) in 2004.
He was promoted to associate portfolio manager in June 2016 and to portfolio manager in October 2018. Aslam is a CFA charter holder.
